 With so many choices available,  it is crazy to think any one person can make an informed decision on what insurance company to use with out doing some comparison shopping.  One of the best ways to do this is look at the insurance ratings or rankings of the various insurance companies.  The question then is how do you find out a company's insurance rating?

6 Must Do's When Rating & Picking an Insurance Company.

  1. Look at the over-all financial strength of the company.  This can be done by a bit of online research
  2. Look at the various risks that could impact an insurer's long-term survival.
  3. Look at the competition in the existing market and see if this might impact price.
  4. Look at how many markets the insurance provider serves.  The more markets a company serves, the higher it will rank.
  5. Also look at the type breadth of diversity of the company when ranking.

A.M. Best This company is the oldest insurance rating company and are a leading provider for insurance news and financial data for the insurance industry worldwide. They have a useful easy to see ratings and analysis search box on their website where you can just enter the name of the insurance company you are looking for. They also have a ratings center where you can find information on rating activity.

Standard & Poor's This company is best know for its credit rating and globally acknowledged for financial-market information. You can search by state and product. The  highest rating is AAA and means the insurance company has extremely strong financial security characteristics. The lowest rating is an R, which means the insurance company has come under regulatory supervision.
