Travel Insurance

Planning a vacation?  If so, accommodations, meals, amenities, tours, attractions, and transportation are not the only thing you should be thinking of.  So much cost, time, and preparation goes into making a vacation great.  So much time, in fact, that necessary travel insurance should be on the top of your list.

Trip protection can not only give you piece of mind in the case of an emergency, but is a necessary measure to ensure a safe, enjoyable vacation.  Sure, not everything always goes as planned.  In fact, rarely does everything go as planned, which is why it is a smart move to protect the circumstances surrounding your pleasurable time.  Travel insurance is mostly used for international travel, but can be beneficial for state-side trips as well.

Travel insurance comes in a variety of packages and policies and can include coverage for any of the following: canceled or interrupted trips; lost, delayed or stolen baggage; medical emergencies including evacuation; supplier defaults including bankruptcy; accommodations and expenses for delayed trips; accident or sickness; automobile coverage including emergency transportation; and missed connections.

Benefits of Travel Insurance:

  • Ability to continue your vacation.  If an interruption happens to take place while on vacation, travel insurance can not only help with the solution, but make it possible for you to (happily) continue your trip.
  • Peace of mind.  No one wants to spend an entire vacation worrying about the unfortunate circumstances that could arise.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses, should something happen.
  • Protection against financial loss including medical expenses & trip cost.

Tips when considering travel insurance:

    • Don’t expect you will be covered.  Many people believe their airline carrier, credit card company or travel agency will provide insurance or cover the cost of travel-related emergencies.  This is incorrect.  This coverage can only come from travel insurance.
    • Book well in advance.  The longer you wait to get travel insurance, the more money you will end up spending.
    • Review the terms carefully.  Some policies offer 50% of coverage, while others offer full 100% refunds.  Make sure you know what you are buying, and that you are comfortable with the coverage you are receiving.
    • Buy full coverage.  Pay the extra dollar in order to have every vacation activity covered.  It is possible for an accident to happen while crocheting, even though you only considered the risk of sky diving.  It’s better to be safe than sorry.
    • Consider an annual policy.  For those of you who are seasoned travelers, an annual policy will probably end up being cheaper.
    • Investigate your insurance carrier.  The worst possible situation would be to purchase travel insurance, and then find out the coverage is useless when circumstances arise.
    • Bring along insurance documents.  In the case of an emergency on your vacation you will want to have the proper documents to confirm your insurance coverage.
